The Father Registry, state by state.

Until paternity is established, a man is classified as a “putative father” — a possible father. A registry means that a father who signs it must be notified if his child is placed for adoption or if his rights are being terminated. Each state runs its own, with its own rules and its own deadlines.

Before you rely on this

The foundation’s original list said “33 of 50 states,” but only 30 were actually published — so that is what you see here, and we’re verifying the rest against each state’s own records. Every phone number, fee and deadline below is shown exactly as it was published and may be out of date. A wrong deadline can cost a father his standing, so confirm every detail with the state agency before you act on it.
